Victorian rental repairs: urgent now, non-urgent within 14 days

The repair category changes the timing, notice process and what a renter should do next.

By LawsFinder Desk

Timing depends on the repair

Consumer Affairs Victoria says urgent repairs must be handled immediately, while non-urgent repairs must be completed within 14 days after a written request. For urgent repairs, a renter may be able to arrange work up to the current statutory limit if the rental provider does not respond, but the official conditions and reimbursement process must be followed.

Preserve the evidence

Record the fault, photos, when notice was given and every response. Use the current Consumer Affairs Victoria form or process; a preparation record is not a substitute for a prescribed notice.
