How to register a company in Australia
Business & company · AU
The step-by-step process for registering a company with ASIC, from choosing a structure to your first annual review.
1. Choose a structure — most small businesses register as a proprietary limited company (Pty Ltd). 2. Choose a company name — check availability on the ASIC register. 3. Appoint directors — at least one director must ordinarily reside in Australia. 4. Register with ASIC — via the Business Registration Service. 5. Apply for an ABN — usually done in the same registration flow. 6. Set up your company register — minute book, share register, constitution.
